Should You Buy a RTX 3080 Instead of a PS5 or XBOX Series X?
NVIDIA releases the all-new RTX 3080 on 17th September, and it might be the beginning of the end of the next-gen consoles — before they even have hit the market.

The game industry is a growing market with revenues around $159bn in 2020 and expected $200bn by 2023. And even in the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of new games and services is increasing. In comparison, profits for Disney dropped more than 50 per cent, and last quarter the company took a loss of $1.4 billion. According to various estimates, the film industry as a whole has lost up to $10 billion in 2020.
So, the gaming industry is in an excellent position. Worldwide, more and more consumers spend their free time with video games. For years, the number of players on all devices has increased steadily, especially in the mobile sector. But traditionally, there were only two real groups of players — those playing on PC and those on home consoles.
And for these two groups, we live in exciting times. Microsoft just published the prices of the new XBOX Series X ($499) and Series S ($299), which will be released on 10th November. At the same time, we are still expecting confirmed information from Sony about a price and release date for the PS5.
NVIDIAs new Ampere GPUs
For PC players, the recent news bulletins might be even more fascinating. NVIDIA announced their new generation of Geforce graphic cards in early September, and they made bolt claims. The new RTX 3000 series will supposedly bring the greatest generational performance leap in GeForce history. They introduced three cards, the RTX 3070 ($499), the RTX 3080 ($699) and the high-end RTX 3090 ($1499).
